Tracks 29-43 = Cogidubnus guest mix:
Cogidubnus is a Manchester-based DJ and producer, he ran the now-defunct Sicknote night, he’s a member of the This City is Ours collective and appears at other nights in the city such as Twisted & Total Garage.   He runs the Broken Bubble digital label (on which about half the tunes on his mix are forthcoming), which aims to release forward-thinking bass music irrespective or genre or tempo. He puts out some of his own material out on the label, and has also had an EP release on Pretty Neat Records and appeared on compilations on Reboot, Methodology & Circuitree and remixed for Echodub.

TTKK #001 – Out now on Juno, Bandcamp etc…

December 1, 2010

So I’ve started a label.  TTKK.

TTKK #001 features 6 Wascal beats that have had plays from Mary Anne Hobbs, Submerse, Darqwan, Grevious Angel etc…
You can buy it direct through Bandcamp: http://wascal.bandcamp.com
Or Juno: http://www.junodownload.com/products/1673529-02.htm
then its rolling out to the major digital stores over the following weeks.
——————–
Trackshttp://soundcloud.com/wascal/sets/ttkk-001
1. Stork.
“if this was a button for ultra like i would have clicked it a million times over” – Submerse
2. Irie
Brand new polyrhymic future garage jungle influenced sparse business.  Better than that description hopefully.
3. Racket
Brand new 92 rave influenced breakstep roller.

4. Know U
As played by Mary-Anne Hobbs on BBC Radio 1.  “this is literally one of the greatest garage records ever made” – Grevious Angel

5. Set Up
As played by Oris Jay / Darqwan and the few others who have it.  Wonked out techno influenced dubstep.  I hate these descriptions.

6. Clank
Mangled orchestral-breakstep-reggae.  Gold star for anyone who can actually mix this record into another.

——————————————————————————————————
If you (or anyone you know) are up for giving this some promo on your blog / radio show / magazine / twitter / facebook / forum / toilet wall of your local pub go for it.
Grab the logo from this post.  If you prefer blogging with a few freebies to give out, grab a tune from the wascal 07-09 archive linked somewhere on this blog.
Also if you can hook me up with your local blog / radio station / magazine contact it would be invaluable, feel free to link this page.
By the way,  ’ttkk’ is short for ‘those that know, know’.

Coming up in Autumn

September 7, 2010

Macabre Unit – Bacteria (Wascal mix)

Last year I did a remix for Macabre Unit due for release on Filthy Digital that was scuppered by the untimely death of the label owner Mike Honcho (RIP). Now after a brief hiatus the label is up and running again, and in October sees the release of a grimey Macabre Unit EP featuring 3 new MU tunes and this mix.

—–

Wascal – Gum (v1)

Wascal – Speechless

Since ‘The Lesson’ on the L2S Mindfood EP I’ve been stockpiling mutant 2 step garage beats for a possible L2S EP and these two caught Whistla’s discerning ear. As soon as Gum has had a final tweak the EP is ready to go. Speechless has had the Radio 1 treatment on Mary-Anne Hobbs show (well one play, anyway ;) ) and has been going down well in clubs across the world if AIM messages are to be believed.

—-

Lecs – No Names (Wascal mix)

Earlier in the year one of the Stink Like Sock guys from Cambridge hit me up to remix a bassline tune his mate Lecs had made. I got carried away as per, and out came this slice of glitch-pop(?) that Swindle’s been dropping on 1Xtra a fair amount. Due out on Pesky Plates and my first actual 12″ release in fucking ages if that works out to plan.

In Ableton at the moment:
About 10 tunes worryingly close to ’92 breakbeat hardcore

Remixes for Coleco, Sclist & DLX

A half finished garagey dubstep EP for Coleco’s Skybrid label

An almost finished EP for Tony ‘Moody Boyz’ Thorpe’s Studio Rockers label – He hasn’t heard any of it so may well not end up on there if he thinks its shit ;)

An EPs worth of 140bpm ‘wtf was that’ music that I’m contemplating starting a label to release if I can find a distributor who is fond of losing money hand over fist

A 2step bootleg of Recloose – Dust

And 40 other bits and bobs…

Finally a free beat:

Wascal & Tekton – Wonderful Feeling

This is a beat I was working on last year with Steve Tekton right before a catastrophic hard drive failure wiped out an albums worth of finished tunes including this. Garage vibes with a vocal that probably would have got us sued anyway, had we tried to release it.

Kraymon – Slick Tricks (Wascal mix) [Louse Records]

September 7, 2010

Kraymon – Slick Tricks (Wascal mix)

Remix for the e-flip of breaks don Kraymon’s new label, Louse Records. Got a bit carried away and created an acid-dubstep-garage-breakstep mix that goes on for almost 7 minutes (so pitch it up or stick a cuepoint on your favourite bit if you’re as impatient as me ;) )

The logo above (with no text, to be fair) is stickered all over my local Bristol haunts at the moment. Just the other day I was thinking ‘WTF is that all about then?’ – Only to find out its a label I’ve had a remix out on for about 2 weeks.

The next release on Louse by Kloudbreak is sounding pretty good, check it on http://www.louserecords.co.uk/

Was a Beatport exclusive but available everywhere now:

DJ Chix ft Resco – Broken Melodies (Wascal mix + Dub)

September 7, 2010

Remix for Chix from Jellybass’ latest EP on Cut La Roc’s Rocstar label.
Dubstep with a hiphop vocal, cheeky Mary-Anne Hobbs guest appearance, huge sub, breaks and I even managed to sneak a hoover in there near the end.

Wascal version on this clip from 4:00 to 5:20ish

I was supposed to supply some footage of me tweaking knobs and looking pro in the studio for the video but – seeing as though my studio is a battered laptop, a pair of trusty DT990 headphones and the nearest sofa – I felt like a bit of a dick and didn’t send footage over. Instead one of the other guys who remixed it flails his limbs for your visual pleasure.

Buy the Broken Melody EP by DJ Chix feat Resco on MP3 and WAV at Juno Download.

Genys – Everything Would Be Different (Wascal mix) [LOWVIBE RECORDS]

September 7, 2010

So I’ve been a bit slack over the summer, so finally posting up the latest Wascal releases and remixes in the shopsdem:

Genys – Everything Would Be Different (Wascal mix)

4/4-dubstep-steppers-funky remix for top-notch DJ and all round nice guy Genys on Lithuania’s first dubstep label, Lowvibe. I was over there playing Kaunus and Vilnius in January this year and was really impressed by his sets and tunes. Club Satta in Vilnius is well worth tracking down if you are over there (if you can find it! No signs for it anywhere and hidden behind an unsuspecting courtyard, yet rammed with people, wicked projections and huge sound.)

[the link to buy the tune is on the soundcloud player btw]
